A Great Example Of 'Car 54' Humor

It's this kind of story that truly endears me to this program, even a half century after I first watched it. This is classic "Car 54" in which the story starts off with one angle, then starts to build and get a little crazy and then goes totally crazy.

That last part - the totally (absurd, ridiculous, outrageous....however you want to label it) had me almost in tears by laughing so hard.

What turns out to be a simple task of getting the desk sergeant and 25-year-anniversary gift turns into lunacy, capped by the scene in the police officer's bedroom at night.

Nathaniel Frey is very good as the man with sore feet, "Sgt. Sol Abrams" and the actor who played the podiatrist was great. Very funny stuff.

    • Quotes

Officer Francis Muldoon: Wait a minute, fellas! Wait a minute. Wait a minute. Wait a minute. Hold it. Hold it. You guys elected Gunther your chairman. Lemme tell ya something about Gunther Toody. I've been his partner for 9 years. For 9 years, every day I've been sitting next to him, listening to him, I've had a chance to study him. Get to know what kind of a man he really is. Now I know... HE'S A NUT! A NUT! YOU DON'T ARGUE WITH A NUT! YOU DON'T REASON WITH A NUT! YOU JUST LET HIM DO IT HIS WAY, OKAY?
