Cops on Cops, & A Nod To Charlotte Rae

Finally! For those of us who loved this show almost 50 years ago, its finally out on DVD (Season One). The opening episode is a one-joke theme involving the day "Thursday." Note: Oddly, this might be episode one on the DVD, but it's the 22nd show that was aired Feb. 18, 1962. Whatever.......

It seems every Thursday night, at 11 p.m. on the dot, "Leo Schnauser" (Al Lewis) and his wife "Sylvia" (Charlotte Rae) get into a loud argument and fellow officers Gunter Toody and Francis Muldoon have to come and stop the shouting before the neighbors start calling the cops (which is ironic.) Without spoiling anything, the question is how can this domestic disturbance be solved. Toody comes up with a plan. No need to say much more! Just say it leads to a lot of confusion.

The highlights of this show, at for me, were the comments made by Lewis and Rae. Their arguments were hilarious and Rae, in particular, was funny. I had forgotten how funny she was on this program.

    • Trivia
In this episode, officer Nicholson is said to have "a wife, five kids, and a barking dog." In other episodes, he is portrayed as a swinging bachelor, always having a date.
    • Goofs
Leo and Sylvia Schnauzer get into a disagreement about Abraham Lincoln's height. Leo claims Lincoln was six feet, six and three-quarters inches tall, and Sylvia claims Lincoln was six feet, seven inches tall. They are both wrong, however; Lincoln was six feet, four inches tall.
