Carol does the Bride of Frankenstein

Vincent Price made his second appearance this year on THE CAROL BURNETT SHOW, so prolific on the small screen even before horror stardom kicked off in the 1950s. Lyle Waggoner as Count Dracula introduces a tribute to classic horror pictures, advising his wife not to bring home a steak for dinner ("it gives me heartburn!"), kicking off with Price as an archaeologist who discovers an Egyptian mummy too wrapped up in the opposite sex to pay him any heed. This is followed by one of the most indelible spoofs ever conceived for the show, Carol playing the Bride of Frankenstein, Vincent her creator, Harvey Korman a horny Monster who attacks Vicki Lawrence when he's feeling frisky. The Monster is getting impatient since it's been quite some time since he's been with a woman, and once Carol is unveiled it's not exactly love at first sight (like the actual Bride Elsa Lanchester, she used her own hair). With the legs of a Russian ballerina, the arms of a gypsy dancer, plus 'two tiny, little bolts' (she covers her chest!), the wedding takes place before her first words spell doom for any honeymoon: "not tonight, headache!" That era of physical comediennes like Carol Burnett, Lucille Ball, not to mention Laverne and Shirley (Penny Marshall and Cindy Williams), are long since passed, comic invention and skillful, expert timing virtually nonexistent in today's ramshackle ruins of Hollywood.
