The Princess in the Tower

Checkmate takes this one on the house as the victim is Naomi Stevens who is their cleaning lady. Stevens had little pet nicknames for her various clients which she shared. Checkmate was referred to as the Katzenjammer kids.

But when Stevens calls Doug McClure in a panic saying that one of her other clients was planning to kill the 'Princess in the tower' and is cut off and later found to have fallen to her death from her apartment, McClure knows it's murder.

Doug is on his own in this one as he painstakingly tries to find the people Stevens cleaned for which will contain the potential victim and perpetrator. Early on the victim is identified as Terry Moore a very wealthy young woman. Lots of possible motives there for someone to want her dead.

Of course Checkmate comes through or rather McClure alone. The fact that Terry Moore is a pretty girl certainly as always gives him incentive.
