    LIfting a Bar Bill

Two very good plot developments. The first is Lilith's mother showing up and insisting that Frasier and Lilith renew their vows. She is a tyrant that even shuts Carla up. The second plot is Sam's trip to Atlantic City where he bets a bunch on roulette and makes Norm a bunch of money. But then he asks the big guy to pay off his century's old bar bill. It' pretty hilarious

    • Trivia
In the episode, Sam makes a bet for Norm in Atlantic City. He bets $50 on "black 17" at the roulette tables...and hits. Then, while distracted by his date, Sam leaves Norm's winnings on the table for another bet...which hits again. Hitting an exact number at the roulette tables pays 35 to 1. So--$50x35=$1750 in winnings. Then, his $1750 in winnings left on the table again hitting and paying 35-1=$61,250. So back the bar, presuming that taxes were not automatically withheld, Sam hands Norm a check for $61,250 (which may or may not have covered Norm's bar tab).
    • Goofs
When Sam and Norm are discussing Norm's tab and Sam is flipping through a large black binder they are discussing how far back the tab goes. Sam states that it goes all the way back to when they didn't even know his name. However when Sam bought the bar back from the corporation at the beginning of the previous season he announced that as a celebration he was going to wipe out all bar tabs.

[Frasier is complaining about his mother-in-law, Betty Sternin]

Dr. Frasier Crane: I suppose it's wrong of me to blame Betty for all our problems. I'm sure I'm not the way she wants me to be either.

Woody Boyd: How does she want you to be, Dr. Crane?

      Dr. Frasier Crane: Well, dead.

Dr. Frasier Crane: The thing that really drives me crazy is the unrelenting tension between Lilith and her mother. You know, Lilith just holds it all in, she has to unload it somewhere and guess who gets to listen to it endlessly.

Woody Boyd: [sarcastically] Apparently me, Dr. Crane.
