    Cringe time

While all of the main characters devolved into caricatures by the end of the series, Cliff is probably the worst. By this point he had gone from the lovable (?) "resident Know-It-All" to the guy at the bar everyone avoided.

So what sort of woman would be attracted to Cliff? We find out here. Annie Golden is a nice enough actress (and an even better singer) but Maggie O'Keefe is just weird, and not in a good way. That Maggie will reappear in three more episodes shows how bad the writing has gotten.

The other plot yet again involves Sam being a creep. There are some funny bits (Frasier describing "erotic triggers" and getting distracted) but it's more of Sam not taking a hint.

(The central gag around "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" is ruined in syndication by replacing the song, and for no good reason: they ended up using it again in later episodes!)

    Pretty Dumb!

Cliff is annoyed that he has to do a training session for a young new postal worker. She is a cute little clone of Cliff. After he gets her trained she comes on to him, kissing him in the bar. Soon, they have an encounter in a motel, but because she is such a rule follower, she is beset with guilt. Cliff must struggle with his fear of getting fired and going with her. The whole episode is just pretty ridiculous.

    You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'

CORRECTION: "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'" was in fact the original song that aired to melt Rebecca's knees. It was changed to "Unchained Melody" in syndication. 2 stars for this move. Episode was funny as it originally aired.

    • Trivia
Longtime producers David Angell, Peter Casey, and David Lee would leave "Cheers" after this episode and make farewell cameo appearances as patrons at the bar (seated next to Norm) in the cold open. The trio went on to create "Wings" and "Frasier" and would return to write a single episode of "Cheers" in its final season.
    • Goofs
In trying to uncover the song that turns Rebecca's "knees to butter", Sam asks her mother, who tells Sam that her favorite song was "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" by the Righteous Brothers. Sam later enters Rebecca's office with a tape player playing the song to tempt her; when the episode originally aired, the song was "You've Lost That Loving Feeling," but in the show's reruns in syndication and on home video (including DVD and streaming), the song is a different Righteous Brothers hit, "Unchained Melody." This is presumably due to licensing issues; there are several other "Cheers" episodes whose soundtracks have similar substitutions, although none with a different song by the same artist, and none in which the song title was mentioned in the show's dialogue.
    • Quotes

Margaret 'Maggie' O'Keefe: [about Cliff not going to Canada with her] But Cliff, it'll be so terrible. I'll, I'll be so cold and all alone. Who will keep me warm?

Cliff Clavin: You'll do fine Margaret. Women have that extra layer of fat.
