I agree that Rebecca's plight, if evaluated in 2019, would seem extremely harsh. No one listens to her. That jackass psychologist deserves anything he gets. But it wasn't made in 2019. What it does is make for some of the most amazing sight gags I've seen. When the wife opens the closet door and out walk Sam, Rebecca, the Chambermaid, and a violinist, I just about fell out of my seat. I mean, not a word was spoken and it was so insane.

Bad way to finish the season!

This episode was ewww. Worst. I mean, come on , it's a season finale and the writers couldn't come up with anything more than this?? And the topic was also sensitive: glorifying sexual harassment to some extent.

Also this episode shows Rebecca as a crazy person just because she's reluctant to get the truth out. Another glaring flaw is that Sam is shown to be unhelpful while Rebecca's needing him, which goes way off against Sam's personality. Overall so mamy things seem out of the place here.

A capable bedroom (Hotel room?) farce

This is a decent little farce that manages to end the most mediocre Cheers season on a (relative) high note.

Frasier's visiting colleague Dr. Lawrence Crandell is celebrating his new book on marital fidelity. Unfortunately, he's a total fraud who goes after anything in a skirt. Even more unfortunately, that includes Rebecca.

This episode is a bit hard to evaluate objectively when you find out what might have been. "Dr. Lawrence Crandell" was originally supposed to be Dr Simon Finch Royce, but John Cleese was unable to return. What might have been Cheers's ultimate tribute to Fawlty Towers ended up a perfectly fine episode.

To his credit John McMartin doesn't attempt to imitate Cleese, but you can see traces of Basil Fawlty in the closet scene. (Joanna Barnes as his wife - "the scariest b**** you'd ever want to meet" - is not a few miles away from Prunella Scales as Sybil Fawlty).

And with this Season Seven - hampered by a strike and scrapped storylines - comes to a close. Things will only get goofier from here.

    Classic episode!

Brilliant from beginning to end. The final bit in the hotel room is classic farce. Really gut busting stuff. Don't get the under 9 or 10 reviews. Not an episode to end the season, maybe, but hilarity all the way through. The reason "The Visiting Lecher" was the season finale was because I believe that there was a shortened season due to a writer's strike in '88-'89. John McMartin was a heck of a replacement for John Cleese. Very funny guest star. I think, since Cheers is so well know for it's tremendous season finales, people were disappointed by this episode as a season finale. But, on it's own, it's phenomenal. Two thumbs up!

    • Trivia
Was to originally feature John Cleese reprising his Emmy Award winning role as Dr. Simon Finch-Royce from the episode Simon Says. However, Cleese became unavailable, and the part of Finch-Royce was rewritten as Dr. Crandall.
    • Goofs
When Dr. Crandell first enters the bar, he orders a "Black & White, neat." Yet Sam clearly pours and serves the drink over ice.
    • Quotes

Woody Boyd: Dr. Crandell. Telephone. It's Mrs. Dr. Crandell.
