A great cast, superb performances and an excellent script make this a memorable episode

"Give a Little, Take a Little" has several familiar faces appearing in it. "Lost"'s Terry O'Quinn plays a slippery lawyer, Michael Madsen plays bad guy Sally Alvarado and "Rocky"'s Burt Young plays the high-level pimp who is making Gina's life uncomfortable. The late Charlie Barnett makes his second appearance as 'Noogie' Lamont.

This is a well scripted, complex tale that is dark and uncompromising. Crockett reveals his sensitive side when he tries to protect a young informant's name from being revealed to the court. Meanwhile Gina finds herself in too deep when undercover as a prostitute.

    This is solid, quality viewing.

Tina Turner's "You Better Be Good To Me" provides a memorable track in this episode.

    9 out of 10.

Give a Little, Take a Little

Noogie gives Crockett and Tubbs a tip off about some amphetamines in a warehouse.

Crockett gets the name of Alvarado from a guy called Bob who Crockett pressurises to talk. However it is Crockett who ends up in jail. In court he refused to name his informant Bob.

Meanwhile Gina and Trudy target a pimp called Lupo Ramirez who runs a call girl service for elites.

Ramirez and Alvarado are linked to each other. Trudy finds herself in trouble as she tries to charm Ramirez.

I did wonder if Crockett would had been better off to plead the 5th amendment in front of that judge!

I do think there was no way in southern law enforcement a judge would pressurise a cop like that to name names unless that judge was crooked.

There is a starry cast in this one from Michael Madsen to Burt Young. Although Young was as convincing as a hispanic than Charlton Heston was in Touch of Evil.

This was another episode with some atmospheric use of music.

    • Trivia
This is the second of three consecutive episodes (along with Glades (1984) before it and Little Prince (1984) after it) that open with establishing shots of the seedy areas of Miami, many of which are located in the South Beach area before the revitalization that took place there during and after the series was on the air.
    • Goofs
In Castillo's office (24:02), right after Crockett says 'I have a canary out on a limb" an editing trick was used to elongate Castillo's pause before he speaks.
    • Quotes

      Detective James Crockett: Alvarado walks.

      Lieutenant Martin Castillo: Walked.

Detective James Crockett: Wonderful. That's just wonderful. We've got a pusher, a suspected mob hit man and God knows what else and he does less time in this case than I did!
