"Hey, Kate, you looked better the other way."

(246-word review) This episode was calm, unlike most of the recent ones: although you could say the previous one was somewhat like that; however, something was different this time, as this episode felt calm in the borderline underwhelming/unexciting way, where the previous one (while giving me that same feeling, in a way) didn't seem that way.

That could've stemmed from Juan Carlos Coto, who wrote the story: and this was the first and only episode of this show that he wrote, which is also an intriguing possibility, given his pretty decent, albeit spread out résumé (his credits seemed pretty consistent in the 2000s, but something must've happened after that). Perhaps this sort of show wasn't for him, explaining why this episode felt different and why it was the only one of this show he wrote, ever.

Still, that's not to insinuate that this episode was poor since it wasn't. The plot (or Juan Carlos Coto's writing) affected the engagement department. The enjoyment was still there, though, as usual. Monroe Cooper was an entertaining character, and Mike Starr's accent went hand in hand with that; Mark D. Espinoza's accent (the actor who played the sheriff) was even better, sounding like old-time actors from the Golden Age of Hollywood. Robin Riker's performance seemed particularly decent as well. And the scenes where McGee and Tony struggled with the whiteboard and when Tony spruced Caitlin up a bit (or the opposite, depending on how you look at it) were pretty entertaining/good, too.

While Gibbs and McGee are entering McAllister's home McGee remarks that the last time he did something like this Tony threw a rock through a window and Kate climbed in a second story window. These events occurred in the episodes, Sub Rosa (2003) and See No Evil (2004)
    • Goofs
When Abby is checking the evidence, she's wearing rubber gloves, both to keep from contaminating the evidence, and to keep from contaminating herself from whatever bacteria is on the stuff brought up from the bottom of the lake. Yet she uses her keyboard and mouse without taking the gloves off, leaving the bacteria on them for herself, or the next person to use the computer without gloves.
