  • Two bikers try to flag down a car for help outside of Fredericksburg, VA . The car plows into their motorcycle. They find the driver is dead at the wheel. He was Intel Specialist 2/C Khalil Sa'id, a naturalized citizen of the USA of Egyptian descent. His death resulted from massive internal bleeding from a perforated intestine caused by swallowing some faceted emeralds. He had just arrived from duty as an interpreter at Camp Delta at the US Naval Station at Guantanamo Bay (Gitmo) in Cuba. In searching the car, his luggage contained five unmailed letters to from Paula Cassidy, an NCIS special agent at Gitmo. Gibbs, Kate, and Tony go to Cuba while Abby checks out perfumes in Washington and other items from the victim's suitcase. Because the Gitmo NCIS agent's letters were found with the victim, they keep her in the dark as to the nature of the investigation. She can tell, however, that she is somehow implicated. They begin questioning Nasser Al Jazair, the most likely prisoner from whom Khalil might have gotten the emeralds. Abby's gemologist friend has identified the stones as originating in Afghanistan. Abby reports that the victim's laptop had a hard drive removed, standard operating procedure with the military. Gibbs acquires it and sends it to her. She finds that there are 20 gigabytes of porn that can be read, but that the file sizes are too big for the content. Mousing around on some of the images, she discovers some Easter eggs of hidden information - maps of the camp and a lot of text. She sends the text back to Gitmo where Agent William Gamal helps translate it. The documents indicate that one of the prisoners is the son-in-law of Osama Bin Lade and he has been marked for murder. Sa'id was helping Nasser to get upgraded to the minimum-security section of Gitmo so that he could have access to kill him. Paula agrees to arrange for the change in prisoner status so that he can identify the son-in-law. They watch closely and wound him as he is about to stab his target with a shiv knife. She is careful not to fatally wound him. If he died, he would be a martyr. Alive, he is a failure and somewhat disgraced.—Garon Smith
