The Partridge Papers

"The Partridge Papers" brings back Bruce Kimmel (second of five appearances) as Marvin, editor of the school newspaper, conducting an auction featuring celebrity mementos; Danny ends up donating the wrong shoe box to the auction, so Laurie's private diary is now in the possession of her greatest enemy (he insultingly refers to her as 'Pickles Partridge'). Failing to negotiate its release, Laurie must turn to brothers Keith and Danny, who clearly can't resist the opportunity to gloat, mapping out a plan to carry out this 'Mission Impossible.' Whether encountering a nosy cop (Gordon Jump, third of seven episodes), or climbing through an air shaft from one end of the room to the other, it's one of the funnier outings. Shirley discovers Marvin's fatal flaw, his surface hostility toward Laurie masking a deep attraction (Bruce Kimmel next plays 'Richard Whipple' in "You're Only Young Twice"). The featured song is Tony Romeo's "It's One of Those Nights (Yes, Love)," issued Dec 1971 as the fifth single, the last to reach Billboard's Top 20, peaking at number 20 (from the newly released fifth LP SHOPPING BAG); its B-side, "One Night Stand," was already featured on third LP SOUND MAGAZINE.
