  • Nelson Tarr bought a small-town radio station on a recommendation from his friend Andrea Walden, who is married to the owner, but her husband believes the rumors about her infidelity, so when he is murdered, Nelson is charged.
  • Martin Walden is the richest man in his community, with a successful landscape gardening business. He believes his wife Andrea, a former actress, is having an affair and has many possible suspects, including local radio-station owner Nelson Tarr and his own nephew Roy Mooney. Andrea and Nelson were friends from Hollywood and she recommended that Nelson buy the station. The rumors are being encouraged by Walden's sister Frances, who wants to replace Andrea as the mistress of the family home. Tarr's teenage daughter Melinda is also interested in the older Roy but he seems to be playing her along. Nelson recently bought the local radio station from Walden and goes into a rage when he learns that the businessman has sold his loan to the bank and arranged for it to call in his loan. When Walden is found murdered in his nursery, hit over the head with a plant pot, Nelson Tarr is charged with murder and Perry Mason defends him.—garykmcd
