Damsel in distress, jailbird and MI5

Simon Templar sure gets mixed up with girls, whether they be a damsel in distress or a jailbird who has broken out of jail, and consequently he is threatened by a couple of guys ( one of them, Neil McCarthy played Calibos in the Clash of the Titans), trailed by the MI5 - nothing is so simple and there is a neat twist at the end, one that was quite surprising. It's a serviceable episode where you get a good car chase, a fiery finale. It's a bit slow in the beginning, but soon picks up.

    The Debt Collectors

After Simon Templar rescues Jeri Hanson (Mary Tamm) from a runaway horse. He gets drawn into the world of espionage.

Jeri's sister Christine (Diane Keen) escapes from prison. She was convicted of passing official secrets. She has escaped just as she was about to be paroled.

Sir Charles Medley from the Ministry of Defence aided Christine's escape. The Saint learns that it is all a ploy to flush out a traitor inside the British security services.

Writer George Markstein wrote for Callan and Special Branch. It is well directed by Leslie Norman.

Christine is a hard boiled lag after spending years in prison. Jeri is flagrant and her father's favourite. Many of the government officials act shifty so there are a lot of suspects for Simon Templar to go through.

A dense story, a change of pace but some plot holes which means it does not always make sense. I did like the twist.

Good roles for both Keen and Tamm.

When Simon Templar in his white Jaguar is chasing the thugs' red Ford Granada around the industrial plant, there is a camera mount clearly visible fixed to the Ford's front passenger-side door as it swerves between a row of columns.

      [first lines]

Simon Templar: [narrating] This is where the English Kings went riding, long ago, to get rid of their hangovers. Nowadays it isn't the exercise people come for, it's the scenery. You see what I mean?

[three ladies on horseback arrive from the opposite direction]

Simon Templar: The view can be... quite enchanting.
