    Kind of horrifying

Watching this episode, I was somewhat horrified by the rampant misogyny on display, particularly the idea that was reinforced throughout the story of the relationship between Susan Sharon and Richard that it's better to be in a horrific, abusive relationship than to be single. What is worse is the callous disregard that Susan Sharon's "friend" Carrie displays towards this, as if the idea that if by turning to her supposed friend for help that she is placing an unfair burden on her...I mean, if you can't turn to your friends for support when your husband is preventing you from leaving the house, then what is the point of those friends?

    When Honesty Gets Messy

So in season 2, episode 2 of Sex and the City ("The Awful Truth"), it's all about honesty in relationships - like when it helps and when it just makes things worse. Carrie gets pulled into her friend Susan Sharon's drama with her husband, which is messy. Charlotte is trying to train her new boyfriend like a puppy (very Charlotte), Miranda gets called out for being "too confrontational," and Samantha throws a dog party that turns into total chaos. It's funny but also kind of real about how tricky telling the truth can be. My favorite part was the ridiculous dog party. The big takeaway is that honesty can set you free... but it can also complicate everything.

Charlotte comes home to find her dog Henry has pooped in the hallway, and then she opens the door to her bedroom to find him tearing up her bedding. If Henry was behind a closed door in the bedroom, he couldn't have pooped in the hall.

Samantha Jones: Your penis is too small.

      James: Excuse me?

      Samantha Jones: It doesn't--and it just--it can't. And I can't. And it's... it's just too damn small.

James: Did you ever stop to think that maybe your vagina is too big?

Samantha Jones: What can I say? I need a big dick.

Dr. Velma Rubin: I hear that.
