So I just watched Sex and the City Season 1, Episode 10 ("The Baby Shower"), and here's what I thought- This one takes the girls out of the city and into the suburbs for an old friend's baby shower. What was supposed to be fun ends up making them all think about marriage, motherhood, and whether they're "falling behind." I liked how the baby shower worked as a symbol of the pressure women feel to have it all figured out by a certain age. Charlotte got emotional about wanting kids, which felt very true to her character. Samantha kept things funny and outrageous. Carrie's narration pulled it all together with that big question about whether women have to follow a timeline. I think the mix of comedy and vulnerability worked well here. The episode was funny in parts but also touching. My only complaint is that some of it felt a little rough around the edges - Carrie still talking to the camera is something I don't love - and the suburban mom character was maybe a bit over the top. Though, it's one of the stronger episodes of season 1, because it digs deeper than just dating stories and shows how each woman views her future.
