The more I watch this episode the more I've come to like it.

We have a man so despicable that there wasn't anything he would do for a buck no matter the consequences. When faced with a tragedy of his doing so heinous that it started a a change so astonishing some people still doesn't believe it. After surviving an accident that no one had any right to. The miracle brings the spotlight on John Kirin. Only John Kirin was known a Kage the person described in the above description. Duncan McLeod only knows "Kage" and what is past was and draws a skeptical eye. In the meantime he has an investigative reporter on his heels. A loyal disciple Matthew will do anything to protect Kirin and does so.

    Twist

If you've noted my reviews of this series, I consistently complain about one-dimensional immortals and villains. This episode is anything but that as far as Kirin. Matthew, on the other hand, is not a deep character.

Most of the episode, especially the flashbacks, build a strong case that Kage/Kirin is evil. And then there is a flashback, followed by Mac confronting Kirin, that says something different. A changed man perhaps?

A couple of nonsensical observations not specifically related to this episode: Apparently the swords of Immortals are hidden by fairy dust and they can magically become solid when needed.

Mac himself can either fly without a plane or become invisible to pass through soldiers and borders because it sure is hard to figure how he got out of Cambodia and other places.

    • Quotes

John Kirin: Look at these misfits, fighting for a lost cause. I like to win. I'd be on the side that wins, it pays a hell of a lot better.

Duncan 'Mac: Is this about money to you?

John Kirin: Don't you get it, MacLeod? It's always about money.
