I hates when TV shows have conflicts that take up long story arcs to resolve with lots of futility along the way.

Ron Perlman was considered for the role of Methos.

Goofs
It's generally thought that immortals are supposed to heal without scars, and some fans have pointed out that Kalas' scar is a continuity error. However, there is precedent that wounds to the throat do result in lasting scars: centuries later, the Kurgan in Highlander (1986) had a throat scar from his battle with Ramirez.
