    Why Is He So Nasty?

This was a really good episode. It involves treatment of a very young competitive diver. She contracts what appears to be meningitis, but treatment involves a hospital full of people who must be screened for the disease. Since she was swimming at a big venue, people are bused in in herds. Cameron is gone and the doctors must split their time between the routine stuff and this really dicey case. This little girl is really a good actress, showing her mettle as they do all these things to her in the most inclement settings. There is lots of anger all around. Meanwhile, it is obvious that House needs Cameron back but she is resistant. The final scene is downright weird.

    A welcome change

An outbreak of bacterial meningitis at a heavily attended school swim meet means House and his colleagues must cope with dozens of people being bused to the clinic to ascertain if they are infected. One 12-year-old girl, played winningly by Skye Bartusiak, seems to have something altogether different going on. You can guess, but you will be wrong. House splits his time between treating her and checking on the seemingly endless stream of clinic arrivals. Cameron returns, but on one condition: She demands a date with House. This series clearly costs some bucks to put together, and this is no more evident than in this very busy episode. Some real ERs and clinics would probably love to have access to all the paraphernalia and equipment seen on this fictional N.J. setup.

    • Trivia
After interviewing Dr. Gilmar, Wilson exclaims "That's our Hitler!" This is a line from Mel Brooks' The Producers (1967), when after many auditions producer Max Bialystock finds his leading man. The movie is about a Broadway producer, and his accountant, intentionally trying to make a low budget, bad musical about Hitler to make easy money. The original film starred Zero Mostel as producer Max Bialystock, and Gene Wilder as his accountant Leo Bloom. A remake of the film, The Producers (2005), was released shortly before this episode aired, starring Nathan Lane as Bialystock and Matthew Broderick as Bloom.
    • Goofs
Many of the doctors, including Chase and Foreman, can be seen assessing patients for meningitis without changing gloves or washing their hands between patients. This is a violation of standard precautions all hospitals use to prevent disease transmission.
    • Quotes

Dr. Roger Spain (First Applicant): [to House when he refuses to hire him] Wow! I thought you'd be the last person to have a problem with nonconformity.

Dr. Gregory House: Nonconformity. Right. I can't remember the last time saw a twenty-something kid with a tattoo of an Asian letter on his wrist. You are one wicked free thinker! You want to be a rebel? Stop being cool. Wear a pocket protector like he does, and get a haircut like the Asian kids that don't leave the library for 24 hour stretches. They're the ones who don't care what you think.
