    Least favorite episode

I Love Lucy wasn't all that great at first. This episode gets my vote for worst of the series. Lucy's not funny here. The whining and fake crying is just annoying. Also, the premise of the men going off to war-why was that supposed to be funny? The only way this episode could have been worse is if little Ricky had been there at the time. In that case, my rating would have been ZERO.

    An okay episode

For some reason I don't care for this episode which is weird because I love comedy with misunderstandings and this has two misunderstandings; the wives think the boys are drafted and the husband's think the girls are pregnant, yet there wasn't alot of laughs from me. Maybe it wasn't executed well, I don't know.

    Lucy and Ethel as one

This is one of those few episodes that showcase Lucy and Ethel as (nearly) equal rather than Lucy "with" Ethel, which makes it much more enjoyable to watch. It also does a lot in presenting Fred as a solid character, which again isn't the usual focal point of most episodes. That said, I must agree with the other comments that the fake sobbing, while entertaining at first, quickly annoys, which kills some of the humor. The ending is great, though, with all the guests in the closet getting tangled together!

    • Trivia
This episode aired on Christmas Eve of 1951. At the end of the episode there was a tag scene in which the four regulars are dressed as Santa Claus bringing presents into the Ricardo's apartment to put under their Christmas tree. The four have a hardy laugh that they all thought of the same idea to dress up as Santa and decided to sing Jingle Bells. During the song the foursome dance around the Christmas tree and when they come out in front of it they notice it's five of them not four. After the foursome pull of their beards to reveal themselves they turn to the fifth Santa and tug his beard. That Santa gives a yelp and then disappears into thin air. The foursome embrace each other and look at the camera wishing everybody a Merry Christmas. This act would be repeated in the season six Christmas episode in 1956. This tag was not rebroadcast for syndication.
    • Goofs
Ricky received a letter from the War Department. It had already been changed to the Department of Defense four years earlier when this originally aired.
    • Quotes

Ricky Ricardo: [while Lucy thinks that Ricky is going into the army while Ricky thinks Lucy is pregnant] Me, father?

Fred Mertz: Yeah. You, father. Lucy, mother. Me, Tarzan.

    • Alternate versions
When episode #1.11 "Drafted" first aired on Christmas Eve 1951, the show included a short Christmas Tag Scene (running just over 3 mins) which has been cut from all subsequent reruns. The Tag Scene featured the four stars dressed up as Santa Claus singing "Jingle Bells" around a Christmas tree. This scene has been restored for the DVD release of "I Love Lucy".
