    The Party

David Banner(Bill Bixby) is working in a private library of a spoiled socialite named Diane Powell(played by Christine DeLisle) who lives on a secluded island where she plans to throw an elaborate masquerade party to celebrate the vernal equinox. Also in attendance will be Jack McGee(Jack Colvin) who has tracked the Hulk down to the island, and his John Doe in particular. David must go to desperate lengths to stay ahead of both him and a potential killer targeting Diane... Plot isn't much to speak of, but this is a memorable episode for the confrontation between Banner & McGee, a most interesting confessional exchange that almost sees David exposed...

    Banner versus McGee

Andrew Schneider thoroughly makes up for "A Rock and a Hard Place" with this intensely plotted and McGee-heavy episode. David works as a librarian on the private island of a spoiled rotten heiress, but while getting supplies on the mainland he has a Hulk out and barely escapes McGee. He makes plans to leave but the heiress has taken a fancy to him and refuses him the use of a boat until her Spring Equinox masquerade party is over. Not only is McGee hot on the trail, one of the party guests plots to murder their host.

The murder plot is curiously underdeveloped: we're given three well- developed suspects, but the script never toys with our suspicions, and the murderer is simply the suspect with the most reason to want to kill the heiress. Logical and realistic, but not as dramatic as it could be.

But the other plots are impeccably done. The heiress is not just a "poor little rich girl"; she's thoroughly and believably loathsome. We can't help but despise her just as David does, and yet it's satisfying when the episode ends with a glimpse of hope for her.

However, it's the McGee pursuit which is most riveting throughout. You really feel Jack's relentless nature in this one, so it's fitting that this time he manages to finally come face-to-face (so to speak) with David. The confrontation between the two men is both thrilling and emotionally powerful; though David uses all his wits as Banner and his strength as the Hulk, he only manages this latest escape because of McGee's own moral doubts. Though it wasn't aired in that order, this feels like it would be a fine season finale.

    Equinox

David 'Beldon' is working in the library of a spoiled heiress who insists that he attends her Equinox Masquarade party. Even when he persists in saying no, she resorts to low tactics by blocking his passage out of there by keeping the key to the boat.

Having almost caught his quarry during the previous Hulk-out, McGee joins the party, wearing a disguise and carrying a tranquilizer gun, and being an annoying pest by trying to see who is behind the mask. He soon gets close to see David who he chases a few times. Meanwhile, one of the guests has had enough of the host bullying everyone around and plans his revenge.

Christine De Lisle plays the rich hostess with the mostest (that's money!) and has a string of men who she insults such as the butler, her cousin (she calls his films tacky) and her married beau (Paul Carr). Predictably one of them tries to do her in. Meanwhile, the reporter McGee gets close in unravelling who David is, as he traps him in a room.

It's quite a fun episode, adding murder and tension to the cocktail. It's well-plotted, gripping and the party is so lavish with the disco music.

[Jack McGee has cornered a masked David]

Jack McGee: It's over, John. Take off the mask.

David Banner: Mr. McGee... mine is not a happy life. All I want is to get rid of the creature. Why won't you leave me alone?

Jack McGee: From the beginning, no-one's believed me. You're my vindication.

David Banner: And you'll be destroying me.

Jack McGee: I'll be stopping... an uncontrollable and dangerous force.

David Banner: The creature saved your life more than once, you know that.

Jack McGee: The creature is also responsible for taking lives. I was there at the laboratory fire. He killed David Banner and Elaina Marks!

David Banner: No! No, no, no. Elaina died in the fire. Not the creature. He tried to save her.

Jack McGee: You'll have every chance to prove that in a court of law.
