Alan Davies gets to the bottom of this Columbo plot.

For my money Jonathan Creek was at its peak in these early years, and The Eyes of Tiresias is a fine example, it's intriguing, funny, baffling, beautifully imaginative and all in all just great viewing. The plot is exceptional, how on Earth could an old Lady foresee three deaths, of course it's up to Jonathan to get to the bottom of things, literally.

The Pride and Prejudice side story is a nice touch, but of course it's the baffling story of the death of Monsieur Masson that is most interesting, it's so cleverly written, you'd never guess the outcome. Davies underplays Creek to perfection once again, some of the scenes are just great, including the excellent conclusion, but it's Maddy that steals the show, her mixup with the two hunky guys was very funny, but the part where she's thrown down the builder's chute is hilarious.

It's a wonderful mix of myths, legends and reality, with some lovely performances, Rebecca Front, Terrence Hardiman and Diana Weston all great, the late Margery Mason was delightful as Aunt Audrey.

    Great episode, 9/10

    Very amusing episode

The quality of this episode is a startling contrast to that of the previous one (Spearfish). The main mystery plot is fairly good but it is the style and sub-plot elements that make it so enjoyable: the witty one-liners from Jonathan; the endearingly infuriating chutzpah of Madeline; and the Renwickian mini-scenes of semi-surreality woven into a smooth and well-paced script.

    • Trivia
The location used for the Masson house is Hall Barn in Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire. The same location is also used in Season 4, Episode 3 (The Tailor's Dummy) for the Bergman house.
    • Goofs
Maddy addresses her male caller at the end of the episode as Gino. But when the camera shows who's calling, it is Josh, played by Damien Goodwin, according to the credits. Gino was played by Paul Blackthorne. Likely to be intentional - playing on Maddy's previous confusion/mis-identification on the phone.
