I don't know what the thinking behind this episode was, but the final product is a messy waste of time. This show should stick to simple world mysteries and things concerning more or less regular people. Every time the writers try to go into the territory of royalty, government, powerful agencies or such, it just becomes a sad and embarrassing case of "this is how three year old Timmy thinks the adult world is like". Add to that the fact that the show clearly has insufficient budget to portray the US military base and the whole episode looks like something a group of fans made in their back yard.
And the solution to the "mystery" was completely obvious from the start and it is utterly unbelievable that Jonathan, who makes tricks and illusions for a living and is supposedly a living encyclopedia of magic, would need extra clues and so much time to figure it out.

This show has taken a turn for the too-ridiculous in its third season. If I first tuned in in season three, this would not be a show I'd continue to watch. Maybe this episode is intended to be a spoof of the X-Files? The whole thing feels like a bad joke, with poor production and comically bad acting.
Maddy witnesses the military removal of what is believed to be an alien creature, having photographed it, she foolishly left personal information at the scene.
It does feel like a bit of a spoof on The X Files, but it's more than that, definitely a little tongue in cheek, you have the brash Americans coming in and trying to take over, but ultimately it's the subtle Creek that solves the mystery.
There are some amusing moments, Jonathan and Maddy on the chat show was funny, the way he rattled on, leaving her sat silent. It's definitely very, very different, it's unlike all other episodes, the first time it goes down the sci fi avenue.
It's definitely boosted by the presence of John Shrapnel, who's a huge presence, that wonderful, velvet voice. Michael Brandon is also rather good, look out for a young Charlie Brooks in the book shop.
8/10.

- TriviaOn the chat show, Jonathan begins to tell a story about a magician called Chung Ling Soo (real name, William Robinson). This was a real Victorian era magician who, though he was really a fit, Caucasian Englishman, famously posed as an elderly Chinese man for his entire professional life. Any time he appeared in public, whether or not he was performing, he wore makeup and spoke Chinese. He died on stage when a "bullet catch" illusion went wrong. His last words, "I've been shot," were the first English words he had spoken in public for over a decade.
- GoofsWhen Johnathan leaves Maddie's apartment, his coat is on as he closes the door, however, when he goes down the stairs the coat is over his shoulder.
