    Not long to go now!

Back in the 80s, I was one of many millions who watched this sitcom, following the trials and tribulations of Penny & Vince after they accidentally met, 5 years after he'd jilted her, but then they accidentally met again, and discovered there was still that 'spark'.

At least that was the first 2 series. I've just caught up (2025 now!) with this 3rd series, which moves the story on a bit further in time. Writer John Sullivan (also Only Fools and Horses) had I believe said he didn't want to do any more JGF, but the BBC persuaded him, and we're glad he did!

This series largely features Vince's wife, and their divorce (he'd married her on the rebound from Penny leaving him at the end of series 2). Plus of course Vince and Penny are back together again, will they make the audience happy this time and end up together?!

And this episode has several great scenes, looking forward to the divorce hearing, also when the dreadful Daphne (Penny's dragon of a mother) spots her with 'thing' (Vince!) coming out of a wine bar and faints in the street. "Get her some water" says Penny -- and he throws the contents of a glass over her face (wonder how many takes that took?!). Plus when Vince persuades Penny's dad to work for his new wine-importing business.

Best of all, perhaps, at the end Penny phones Vince who's in his Rolls-Royce (spot the clunky car-phone!). Distracted, he crashes -- into HER car. With a bystander repeatedly saying "I'll be a witness" -- Vince casually asks her to marry him. Jan Francis melts the camera as she looks at him and says "yes, if you like". Hurray -- but . . . .will they survive the divorce? Just 2 more episodes to go!
