    baseball on the prairie!

The episode title a cute play on words(in the big inning can also be in the beginning). Not important but worth mentioning. Now this episode I don't like for me its very boring. I 'm not a big sports fan. For people who love sports this one might be a treat if not you can really skip this one. Nothing really happens in here. Imo this episode is weak. The only fun positive thing I can say about this episode is where the Mrs oleson,Mr Hanson and Doc baker fight over a name for the baseball team that pretty funny!!!

Now continue to episode??? Looks like the episodes are a little out of order. (Next episode IMO is "the camp out")

    Take me to the ballgame

This isn't one of my favorite episodes, but it's a light-hearted one.

The annual Walnut Grove vs. Sleepy Eye baseball game is in town. This is the only year they have a baseball game. The team is composed of most of the men in town such as Nels, Charles, Mr. Edwards, etc. Reverend Alden is the umpire, which is pretty humorous at times.

Charles discovers a good pitcher when he watches the man throw some rocks at a chicken hawk. After he agrees to pitch, bets are made and his wife immediately protests and doesn't allow him to play. But leave it to Caroline and Reverend Alden to come up with a good use for any money that may be won in the game and she suddenly agrees.

If that's not enough, the men of the Sleepy Eye team are a bit shady. They play by the rules as long as they win, but bend the rules if they start loosing. The pitching is quite commercial as well.

In the end...well, I won't tell how it ends. That needs to be seen by watching this fun episode...Me, I go for the more tenderhearted episodes myself...

    Go Grove Go Grove!

The boys from Sleepy Eye are coming to play our pals from Walnut Grove. In the end, Walnut Grove pulls off the win! Overall, this episode provides filler for season 2. There really isn't any character development, or heart strings tugged, or even a message. Instead it is just a silly and somewhat entertaining episode. The best part of the episode is the 19th century baseball nuances.....everything from the marching band to the poor excuse for a glove. Not my favorite, but still a worthwhile episode..

    • Trivia
In the "fight" at the end of the game, no one (apart from Mr Edwards) throws a punch but instead just grab hold of and wrestle with each other.
    • Goofs
Despite taking place in 1875/1876, before the Centennial, the pitchers in the game threw overhand. Per the rules, overhand pitching did not start until 1884.
    • Quotes

Charles Ingalls: Even Reverend Alden came up with a name. The Walnut Grove Heavenly Hosts. Can you imagine sewing all those letters on my shirt?

Caroline Ingalls: I'm surprised at Reverend Alden coming up with a name like that. Seems sacrilegious.

Charles Ingalls: Not if we win.
