    Too little too late

I guess that this is the caliber of episodes I'd expected for the 6th season.

Through the first 3/4ths of this episode, it just seemed dull. Nothing ever really happened; at least nothing of substance.....nothing to move the story along with emotion. It was ho-hum.

Then, with about 10 minutes left in the story, I really started enjoying it. I guess the author of this script finally brought out what this show is capable of. It wasn't that some big thing had happened; it's just that the characters seemed to me more grounded. Finally.

I really could have cared less about the plot of this story however.

Narrator: [narration as John 'John Boy' Walton, Jr. reading from his journal] While the war in Europe continued to spread, a deceptive calm lay over Waltons Mountain. In this 'quiet before the storm' our mother turned to painting, losing herself in it as if, somehow, she could preserve those tranquil days for ever.
