    Warm and wonderful

Oh my. After the previous episode, I started worrying (once again) that I'd never again see an episode that had all the ingredients of a warm, wonderful, successful story.

This is the kind of the storytelling that, for me, makes The Waltons so special: no big guest star; no big tumult or anxiety or restlessness; no big holiday, special occasion to build a story around. Just a simple, lovely story. This is something that, when done right, makes The Waltons the stand out series for me.

Though I've always loved John Crawford as Ep Bridges, he was never, never better than this episode.

    Just wonderful on all counts

    • Quotes

Narrator: [narration as John 'John Boy' Walton, Jr. reading from his journal] With each passing year on Waltons Mountain our growth was sparked by learning and change. In fitting together the pieces of our developing personalities, there came a time when my youngest brother, Jim Bob, had to make a decision which was to affect the rest of his life.
