An Odd Episode Leaving You Scratching Your Head

This is one of the stranger episodes. Judging by the lack of reviews I wonder if fans pretend this one remained on the cutting room floor. Best part of this venture into Occult Spiritualism is a conversation between James Gammon and Wilfred Brimley in the opening minutes. Problem is this Ouija Board. Seems like Ike could have marked down the price to remove this time waster. Shouldn't the Baldwin sisters know better? No surprise the biggest objectors to John Boy bringing home the board are Grandma and Olivia. Still the nuisance lingers. Reverend Fordwick or the family Bible could have offered an effective counter point. Episode effectively shows the challenges of parenting. Not easy steering children from traps parents once fell into themselves. Other temptations out there besides taboos masquerading as board games. Convoluted ending clouds message. Not clear this movie even has a message.

    • Quotes

Narrator: [narration as John 'John Boy' Walton, Jr. reading from his journal] I suppose at one time or another, in the course of our lives, many of us have experienced an event or occurrance which could not be explained and, at the same time, was shrugged off as a coincidence or a trick of the mind. I remember a series of such events and, even today, many years later, I still can't help wondering just how much of it was coincidence. It all started one afternoon in late fall...
