Selling Cars Requires Plenty of Knowledge and Know How

Ben tries his hand at selling used cars. He leaves John Boy to fend for himself with the newspaper. Meanwhile Olivia plays matchmaker, trying to fix up Sheriff. Funny scene in a movie theater underscores how tough it is for Walton children to escape watchful eye of parents. Ben gets carried away selling used cars. Culpability of owner of dealership isn't addresssed. Episode does show the importance of having a skilled trade. Also as much as kids hate to admit it they need each other.

    • Trivia
The movie that John, Olivia, Ep, and Sarah saw was "Naughty Marietta" (1935)
    • Goofs
In the opening of the show Jim-Bob's car backfires causing John-boy to exit his office, you can see the engine of the car and there are no wires connected to the spark-plugs. The car couldn't backfire without the spark-plugs being connected by wires to the distributor. In fact there would be no reason to try to start the car if the spark-plugs weren't connected.
    • Quotes

Narrator: [narration as John 'John Boy' Walton, Jr. reading from his journal] In the spring of 1938, I began to feel the burden of publishing The Blue Ridge Chronicle and finishing my novel. It would be the newspaper which would create a crisis affecting the entire family.
