Trivia
In the opening scene of this episode, John Boy tells his brother Ben that Paul Matthews looks familiar, but he can't place where he has seen him before. The story line later solves John Boy's mystery but another explanation may be an inside joke among the cast members. This is the second time actor Morgan Stevens has appeared in the series. The first time he played Sam Stadder, the injured soldier who shared a hospital room with John Boy in ep. 8.10, The Waiting.

Goofs
The story presumably takes place in the 1940s, yet when Ike and Cora Beth pull up in front of the "federal assay office", parked out front is a white VW "Squareback" station wagon, introduced in the U.S. in 1966, and what appears to be a green 1968 VW "Beetle" sedan, among the other very-modern-looking parked vehicles.

Narrator: [narration as John 'John Boy' Walton, Jr. reading from his journal] As the memories of war began to fade, our lives took on the more natural rhythms of daily life.
