Not a 'CLOSE' family.

Just a selfish man who won't let his children live a separate life. The idea of telling a WIFE who hasn't seen her husband for a long time to spend a few days with him and he'll take over later. My first wife was from such a family and her constant running back home destroyed our marriage and my Army career.

Trivia
This is Ralph Waite's final appearance as John on the series. However, he would later reprise his role in all six reunion television films from 1982 to 1997.

Goofs
John Walton Sr. tells the family 'Mama's started to cough again." She never coughed in the first place, and people can get TB in other organs besides the lungs.
