Seams Waltons Have A Chance For Money

Olivia can take a job as a seamstress so John can get loan he needs for lumber company. Heartwarming back story about growing old. Good thing about series is how much it honors elderly. An ongoing curiosity involves the romanticized Mountain, and yet people are always wanting to leave it. Still most of the dialog works. And there's plenty of great family moments.

    • Trivia
Olivia's mention of Scarlett O'Hara would place this episode in 1936, the year Gone With the Wind was first published.
    • Goofs
When walking up to the Waltons' porch, Merie Earle, playing Maude Gormley, flubs her line and says, "I came to visit with Bertha" instead of Myrtle. She can be seen rolling her eyes and looking upward in an exasperated state, but the actors continued on with the scene anyway.

Narrator: [narration as John 'John Boy' Walton, Jr. reading from his journal] There was one daily reality to our life on Waltons Mountain, and that was the Depression and our constant and continuing need for money. I count it remarkable that we, and others like us, were not totally defeated by hard times. The credit for that, of course, must go to our parents and their unique strengths, strengths that were tested almost daily.
