    A Rose Amongst the Thorns!

I give this episode 10 stars for the important lesson in thankfulness provided by Rose, played by Peggy Rea!

With lots to be sad about, I like that Rose fights to rise above the thorny sorry-for-me Walton kids who seem to think that it's wrong to have Thanksgiving when so much is wrong in the world.

Rose lets it be known that it's time to have hope and be thankful for what there is instead of sad for what there isn't; it's a timeless message that is a nice reminder in 2022.

    • Trivia
This episode marks the first appearance of Robert Wightman as John-Boy, succeeding Richard Thomas who played the role in the first six seasons. Wightman reprised his role in A Day for Thanks on Walton's Mountain (1982) but Thomas returned as John-Boy in A Walton Thanksgiving Reunion (1993), A Walton Wedding (1995) and A Walton Easter (1997).
    • Goofs
Aunt Rose would not have asked the family what they like to eat after she'd been living there 3 months. She also would have access to the recipes already written down by Elizabeth and Grandma.
    • Quotes

Narrator: [narration as John 'John Boy' Walton, Jr. reading from his journal] Joy and tragedy walked hand in hand during the dark days of World War Two. When good news came it always seemed to be tinged with sadness. The words "your son is alive" were too often followed by the phrase "he is badly injured". When those words came to my family it meant that the long wait was not over, it had just begun.
