Hope you brought enough for everybody...........

What decent soldier would make out with a woman in front of guys who have no woman available?? Doesn't say much for her character to say the least.

They should have killed off John Boy. He wasn't all that back on the mountain...he's surely not the greatest war reporter who ever lived.

    Not realistic

I have found these episodes where the Walton boys enter the military, to say the least, rather unrealistic. I never watched these when they first aired on TV. I was serving a career in the U.S. Navy. John-boy is supposed to be a reporter for Stars & Stripes yet he shows up wearing Sargent First class stripes. Jason joins the Army and walks around with long hair as does Ben when he joins the Navy Seabees. This would never happen. First, reporters were never ranked. Second, neither the Army or Navy would allow the long hair. Hollywood I guess, and that's what makes these unbelievable. John, going to see the President, is also not believable. Never happen.

    • Trivia
The character Josh Foster was originally played by actor Todd Bridges in episodes 6.2 "The Stray" and 7.8 "The Illusion".
    • Goofs
John Curtis talks to John at the dinner table about his new pants, saying someone called Pat bought them. John asks him if Pat lives on the next farm. Pat may have been one of the production team. This looks like it was an unscripted conversation. The child playing John Curtis happening to speak to John while filming was taking place, and John playing along, continuing the conversation. It's also evident that the others found the ad lib conversation funny as they are heard laughing off camera.

Narrator: [narration as John 'John Boy' Walton, Jr. reading from his journal] By the spring of 1945 there were no young men left on Waltons Mountain, though with the Allied forces close to victory in Europe, hope grew that soon they'd be returning home. The cost of defending our freedoms ran high, and in our patriotic fervor we sometimes failed to realise that those freedoms were too often not evenly distributed.
