- Ken Reeves: For some things I'm about to say that I don't think either one of you are gonna like.

- Ken Reeves: Like I don't think you're pregnant.

- Ken Reeves: I wonder. You know, in some ways she's smarter than you, Milton. She knows you could have gotten a basketball scholarship, probably to a school out of state. She knows that with a four-year college education under your belt, you probably weren't coming back here. She knows you probably weren't coming back for her, either. How am I doing so far?
- Darlene Robinson: Come on, Milton. let's get outta here!
- Ken Reeves: I don't mean you did it maliciously. I think you really love Milton. I think you were just afraid of what your life would be like without him.
- Darlene Robinson: That's a lie!
- Darlene Robinson: I think you've seen it happen to a lot of girls and you were gonna make damn sure it doesn't happen to you.

- Ken Reeves: [to Darlene] Take a pregnancy test.
- Darlene Robinson: I did already!
- Ken Reeves: Who's the doctor? Where are the test results?
