Powerful episode but little has changed

I like this show. I honestly had never heard of it. With just 12 episodes it clearly didn't resonate with the public in its day. That's a shame. It spoke to important issues with wit and humor that made me laugh out loud. The cast for this show was great. The big mistake was writing out and/or replacing Valerie Mahaffey. She is good in anything she does. Julie Haggerty was not right for the role. The cameos by high profile actresses speaking about the reality of women's roles in Hollywood movies just made it obvious that too little has changed since the mid-90s. And while the show made me laugh, the message it sent coupled with the current reality made me sad.

    • Trivia
This show was originally scheduled to air on CBS on August 25, 1995. Pivotal to the plot, the episode ends with a minute-long montage of various women being abused and murdered, which the network censors announced they were going to remove, but series creator Linda Bloodworth-Thomason staunchly refused to let them air the show without it. As a result, the Lifetime network, which at the time held the exclusive syndication rights to sister show Designing Women (1986), ultimately aired the show uncut in a marathon along with a rerun of "Men Are Good" and the remaining episodes that CBS hadn't aired. The marathon was hosted by Delta Burke (who appeared on-location during the filming of the movie Maternal Instincts (1996)), and it concluded with an exclusive interview with Bloodworth-Thomason.
