    Words for today's California

20:10 "Our lives, our fortunes, the whole future of California is at stake." I find this offen in many of these older black/white shows. It as if they are speaking to us today.

Don Rafael Montero: Upon assuming governorship of California, "The Spaniards oppressed you, the Mexicans ignored you, and the Dons... well the Dons, the Dons... they merely seek to cheat and lie to you. I say, who in your entire history has ever helped you?"

Replace Spaniards with the federal government, Mexicans with the state government, and the Dons with the elected representatives and you have today's world.

As a child Zorro was always one of my favorites, aswas Guy Williams. As an adult I continue to enjoy it. Finding parts that can be related to today's world is extra.

Don Diego de la Vega: I'm afraid we have almost reached the hour of decision, Bernardo. Our lives, our fortunes, the whole future of California is at stake.

[Bernardo makes the sign of the Z with his finger]

Don Diego de la Vega: No, Bernardo. I'm afraid a dozen Zorros could not stop these men. They're too well organized.

[Bernardo shrugs with his hands in a gesture of, 'So what, then?']

Don Diego de la Vega: We'll fight to the limit of our ability. We will do our best. No man can ask more than that, even of himself.
