    Ned Goes Down

Flanders invites Homer to a barbecue. There Flanders announces he is quitting his job and opening a store for left handed people. Of course, it's a failure but Homer had tried to put a curse on the business and sees the family's demise as his fault. It is actually sort of sad.

    Homer Simpson Vs. Ned Flanders!

This is the third episode of the third season of the Simpsons and I really liked it a lot. This episode highlights the rivalry between Homer and his neighbor, Ned. Or more so between Homer and his dislike for Ned and his riches. It was funny to see how Homer tries to thwart Ned's plans, but it's also nice to see that Homer has a heart, even for his enemies.

In this episode, "When Flanders Failed," Ned opens a store in the mall called the Leftorium which sells products for left-handed people. When Homer gets jealous, he wishes that Ned fails. When his wish comes true, Homer feels guilty and tries to repair the damage he caused.

Overall, this is a decent episode and one that highlights the jealousness Homer has for Ned. It can be a little sappy at times, but on the whole it's a pretty good episode. I rate this episode 9/10.

    Missed the mark

This episode really did a disservice to Homer. It's one thing to show that he doesn't like Flanders but to make the animosity towards him was too much. He only shows remorse at the last second. Homer plays a poor antagonist anyway; it's just not in his character.

Those Germans have a word for everything

Ned Flanders opens a store for left-handed people.

This is strong episode with good humour and character moments.

Ned Flanders brings out both the worst and best of Homer Simpson in this very funny rollercoaster of mean and good spirited behaviour.

I love the parody of 'It's a Wonderful Life' and the sub-plot involving Bart supposedly taking Karate lessons is full of ironic humour.

    • Quotes

Lisa Simpson: Dad, do you know what Schadenfreude is?

Homer Simpson: No, I don't know what "shaden-frawde" is.

      [sarcastic]

Homer Simpson: Please tell me, because I'm dying to know.

Lisa Simpson: It's a German term for "shameful joy", taking pleasure in the suffering of others.

Homer Simpson: Oh, come on Lisa. I'm just glad to see him fall flat on his butt!

      [getting mad]

Homer Simpson: He's usually all happy and comfortable, and surrounded by loved ones, and it makes me feel... What's the opposite of that shameful joy thing of yours?

      Lisa Simpson: Sour grapes.

Homer Simpson: Boy, those Germans have a word for everything!
