    Babies and bowling balls

For those of you who enjoyed the TV version of HONEY I SHRUNK THE KIDS, you will be in for a pleasant surprise in this episode, as Hillary Tuck guest-stars as a young mother suddenly developing seizures and endangering her newborn. Tuck is a terrific young actress, and gives as good a performance as the distraught mom as any actress who has ever appeared on this show. And that's saying something. Meanwhile, Cuddy has asked Wilson to dinner. Is it a date? Wilson kind of thinks so, but House isn't convinced. Foreman is back, thank God, but he's not all there. He is suffering from an aphasia. He's also gotten way too nice and sweet and nonargumentative and at peace with himself and the world, something House makes plain he will not tolerate. Chase has had enough for the time being, and ends up on the baby ward for a few weeks. This move also has House alarmed. Hell, at this point everything is alarming House. And his leg keeps getting worse.

    • Trivia
ECMO stands for extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, a type of cardiopulmonary bypass used when a patient's heart and lungs cannot adequately oxygenate the blood. It works by pumping the patient's blood out of their body and into a machine that mimics the function of the lungs by removing carbon dioxide and adding oxygen, then pumping the blood back into the body. It was mainly used on children because they have a smaller blood volume and are less susceptible to the stress it puts on the body; however, recent advancements allow ECMO to be used on adults more frequently.

No PCR in saliva would reveal cancer markers. Cancer markers are mostly proteins detected in blood or urine, very little would be detected in saliva, and that would require biochemical tests, never a PCR. PCR can be used to detect genetic disposition to cancer, but that's not a diagnose method. Also, there's absolutely no way estrogen can be detected that way.

Correction: PCR tests can detect cancer markers, including in saliva. A separate test was done on the saliva for the estrogen.

Dr. Gregory House: [after patient refusing treatment after finding out she contributed to her baby's death] She said no.

Dr. Eric Foreman: So we get her declared unstable. Appoint a medical proxy.

Dr. Gregory House: She was unstable. Now she's sane. She's entitled to refuse treatment.

Dr. Eric Foreman: We have to change her mind. You can't just walk away.

Dr. Gregory House: Fine! Go on in there and tell her that every day is a blessing! "So you killed your baby! Shake it off, think positive! At least you're alive!" Hmm. Kinda hard to sell when you don't believe it, huh? And you never believed it. You just wanted all that crap you went through to mean something, well it didn't mean anything, it never does! Welcome back.

Dr. Eric Foreman: Why are you doing this to me? I was happy.

Dr. Gregory House: You were aspiring to be content.

Dr. Eric Foreman: Don't give me a semantic argument. I was content with the way things were. That's what happiness is.

Dr. Gregory House: Right. If we were all satisfied with what we had what a beautiful world it would be, we'd all slowly starve to death in our own filth, but at least we'd be happy. Listen, I need your self worth to hang on this job. For kicking ass to be all that lets you rise above miserable. If waking up in the morning is enough, I don't need you.

Dr. Eric Foreman: I can live with that.

Dr. Gregory House: No, you can't. Not anymore.
