    Sensational portrait of a genius

I came across a DVD of this profile of Joni Mitchell by chance browsing through the music video section at HMV in London. I'm delighted that I bought it - apart from Both Sides Now I had not been a particular fan, but having seen this I now have the most profound respect for a true 100% musical genius. Countless clips of unforgettable and deeply touching performances by Joni - beautiful juxtaposition of contextual and biographical episodes - and many many insightful contributions from contemporaries, fellow artists like D Crosby, J Taylor and G Nash, friends (and lovers), and of course from JM herself.

Hope to see some comments from JM fans, as I'd love to hear their views. As a visual profile of this kind, I have seen nothing to better this....

    The (almost) compleat Joni Mitchell

It's a delight for her fans for much time is given over to music and all her best songs are included ,from such folk classics as "the circle game"and " both sides now"(aka "clouds" ) to the complexities of the seventies material ,as her folk turned to jazz ("coyote" here performed live ) and even rock and roll ( a sensational live take of "raised on robbery" ,which rocks harder than anything she's done ) ; the magnificent "Amelia" ,my favorite of hers ,is also included .

Other artists of her heyday intervene : both David (Geffen and Crosby) ,Graham Nash (who wrote in his autobiography -"wild tales" - that Willy "took his breath away").

There's just one problem :"the hissing of Summer lawns" is completely passed over in silence and it's too bad for it includes notably "the boho dance" which features African influences long before Paul Simon.

Mitchell is also a very talented painter , it shows in this biopic.
