Orphan you don't want to adopt

Orphaned child is adopted by a couple who eventually discover he's the anti-Christ. Low-budget and painfully tedious until the last 20 mins, whilst there's a constant aura of tension, the flow is stilted and lacking momentum that the audio-visual effects can't overcome.

The acting is functional and the technical specs are passable when you consider the budget, but if you're not prepared for the C-grade scale, chances are you'll be a little disappointed. One actress has a great scene where she eats a fire poker, and then there's the dude who's spontaneously attacked by the lawn mower, circular saw and power drill which is hilarious (and bloody). Plenty of sex and violence, nudity and blood, all the cool stuff you're expecting to see in a cheap exploitation film, and in this department, 'The Child' doesn't disappoint.

Around those elements though, it's a struggle even allowing for the fact it's not taking itself too seriously; bland and unimaginative, like a student film homage to 'The Omen' - which is okay for curiosity sake if they screen it for free, I just wouldn't be paying money to see it.

    Not worth your time!

This was a futile attempt at a horror movie, effects made me laugh on several occasions actually - and whats up with that dude using a webcamera looking down on him and he facing away from hes computers? normally u would look at ur computer when talking to people using webcam no? ohwell if u have nothing better to watch, see it , but with a stiff drink! I found this movie to be a true insult to everyones intelligence, actually laughed my way through last part, it's so bad i cant imagine it will ever go over 1 on IMDb, though i give it 2 out 10 for the pure sense of the twisted humour in it! (btw check the broad who charges her self on the stick while attacking lol - hilarious)

Not as bad as 666: The Beast but still very bad

There are a few redeeming values, some of the music is creepy and the camera work and lighting are decent. The acting is not great, Donald especially could have had much more personality, nor is it terrible like other Asylum movies. Everything else however is a mess. The effects are slapdash at best, part of the reason why the suspenseful/gory scenes don't make an impact, and the direction is inconsistent, there are a few moments where it is competent but one too many times also where it's lazy. They're not the worst parts though. It was how 666: The Child was written where the film really sank. The script is peppered with corny dialogue and lines and exposition that too often go nowhere. The characters, excusing for a moment that they are clichéd, are more annoying than likable and underdeveloped in alternative to well developed. The story is just dull, there is no atmosphere and things happen randomly and with no explanation. All in all, it's a little better than its sequel 666: The Beast but is still very bad, so that is little in its favour. 3/10 Bethany Cox

a good spoof, not to be taken seriously.

very entertaining, things like this make me laugh and i am pretty certain the whole thing was 'tongue in cheek' cant see that anyone would take it seriously, its just totally hilarious, and yeah the anti Christ boy 'donald' like... zilch personality, all in all it made me giggle for over an hour, i think really that you are all missing the point and it isn't actually meant to be considered a serious piece of film making... from what i can tell for other comments, this production company make 'sppofs' of well known horror films, so considering that, this is a pretty good spoof...if you really want to get annoyed, aim it at the re make of the omen, which was supposed to be serious and is just utter rubbish and no point int hem making it.

    Bad Bad Bad

Bad. Bad. Bad. Bad. Bad. What else can I say. Kate Jackson must have been desperate to direct. May be she should go back to acting...on second thought she was a bad actress to. Who would put money in to producing something this bad. I like anti-Christ movies and usually have a good laugh and the odd scare but this one is just Bad Bad Bad. The acting by the stars was worse than what you find on a soap opera. The special effects, if you can call them that, where laughable. I would not be surprised if you played the scenes in slow motion you would see the tubes the blood shoots out of. We had to turn the disc off after only 30 minutes. This so called movies original prints should be destroyed, all disc' and tapes destroyed and all the people associated with the making of the movie have to pay back money to the people that rented the movie. Then those people should never be allowed to act, direct or film any thing but their own home movies.

The film was released on June 6th, 2006 to capitalize on The Omen (2006), which was released in the U.S. on the same day.

      [first lines]

Erika Lawson: Tragedy has shattered this peaceful Thanksgiving Eve. Pacific Airline's Flight 7666 from San Francisco inbound to Burbank has just crashed in the hills of Glendale. There is no confirmation as to the number of survivors but we do know that the aircraft was overbooked...

    • Crazy credits
The events, characters, and firms depicted in this photoplay are fictitious. Really. Any similarity to actual persons, living or dead, or actual events is purely coincidental, and very weird. We suggest moving and/or double checking to make sure no one you let into your home has the mark of the devil tattoo on them. It only takes a moment to do a quick once over and you can never be too careful.
    • Alternate versions
The scene where Scott catches Lucy undressing was slightly re-framed in order to hide actress Nora Jesse's breasts when the film aired on the Sci-Fi Channel.
