- Beauty's Father: [after discovering his cargo in very bad shape] Oh, no.
- Harbor Master: Aye, as you can see, she took on much water during the typhoon.
- Beauty's Father: But you said the ship was repaired!
- Harbor Master: Aye, only enough for her to make sail.
- Beauty's Father: M-my spices! They're ruined!
- Harbor Master: I'm afraid so, sir.
- Beauty's Father: [opening a crate containing tea] These tea leaves are useless. Silk! It's good for nothing now! Ergh, and what of the other holds? How much of my cargo was salvaged?
- Harbor Master: Aye, I thought you knew. The cargo was a complete loss.
- Beauty's Father: Eh, complete loss...?
- Harbor Master: Aye, the ship as well, I'm afraid. It's damaged beyond repair. Er, perhaps-perhaps you can sell some of it for scrap.
- Beauty's Father: Scrap to pay some of my creditors...? Oh, my children will be so disappointed.

- Beast: To steal what I love most in the world: my roses.
- Beauty's Father: Oh, please, my dear lord, eh...
- Beast: Don't call me "lord"! I am a beast.
- [roars loudly]
- Beast: And don't argue, you'll pay for this with your life!
- Beauty's Father: Eh, see, I took the rose only as a gift for my daughter, eh, Beauty.
- Beast: A daughter, you say? And named Beauty?
- Beauty's Father: Eh, yes, my lord. Ooh, I mean, beast, not lord. See, see, I'm a failed and broken man; all she asked of me was this little rose.
- Beast: I will strike you a bargain. You may go home and ask Beauty if she will die in your place.

- Alicia: Ooh, Father! You mean I'm to have no new dresses?
- Pauline: And no jewels for me?
- [both cry]
- Beauty's Father: I'm afraid not, my daughters. For I have not so much as a penny more than when I left you.
- Beauty: Oh, Father, we're just so happy to have you back safely with us.
- Beauty's Father: I did bring back one gift.
- Beauty: Oh! Father, you brought me my rose!
- Beauty's Father: Yes. Cherish it, my dear. For it will cost me my life.
