    Utter Disappointment

After 12 seasons one would expect more from a finale. This felt more like an episode of the week and not even a compelling one. Very little emotional conclusion and just seems like a season end building to next year. But there is no next year so it was a fizzle.

    Hi Bones Booth!!!

This episode was amazing alot to love about it. It was great seeing more of the past and background of Bones. As someone who lost their mother a few years ago and has a largely absentee father I saw it through a different lens this rewatch and felt so heartbroken for Bones and Russ. I am so happy that she got to reconnect with her brother. I agree with Zack limbo is a very appropriate name for the bone storage. Angela asking the important question "Did you Polo?" Lol. Yes absolutely Bones how could anyone use that thing on a pig or any animal? Wong Foos!!!

    I'll Take It

Nicely plotted, allowing an expansion of Tempe's story. When a skull is identified as her mother, it leads to a huge can of worms, including the reappearance of her brother, Russ. Brennan has been carrying anger inside her for the longest time and blames her brother for abandoning her after her parents disappearance. Much of the charm of this is watching Brennan deteriorate while she goes through the processes of putting aside her fury and getting down to business. We find out that her parents were involved in some shady dealings and were not the simple, reserved creatures she imagined them. I thought this was the best of the first season.

    What happened to my Mother?

At the beginning of this episode, Brennan is devastated to learn that some remains left at the Jeffesonian are those of her mother. Booth is the first (after Brennan) to discover this and works hard to comfort her and help her learn how her mother died.

There were hints throughout the season that her parents were missing and we knew it was only a matter of time before that story was written. This is a story that is never really resolved, as far as I can tell. Even in Season 10, Max states that there are things she just doesn't know. This story evolves over the seasons.

Again, the writer's do such a good job with the complicated relationship Booth and Bones have. Though she has a boyfriend, she turns to Booth for comfort and help. She cries in his arms and throughout this episode there are several times he chases everyone out of the room so he can speak to her alone.

And ohmygosh, what Booth finds at the very end of this episode is just...it shows just how deeply she cares for Booth.

A cliff hanger is added at the end that promises Season 2 will be interesting!

Oh, and Bones makes the comment of "I just may now be a vegetarian after this." She actually already was one...

    • Trivia
In Brennan's apartment, you can see a picture of her and Angela on a shelf beside her dining room table. This is actually a personal picture taken of real-life friends Emily Deschanel and Michaela Conlin which was then used on the show.
    • Goofs
When Angela and Hodgins are showing Brennan the movie ticket, there are two different versions on the screen. The actual ticket is on the left of the screen and a digital copy on the right. The actual ticket has the same information Angela reads to Brennan. Rialto Theater, 9 pm showing, September 22nd, 1993. However the digital copy shows 4/22/93, not 9/22/93.

Angela Montenegro: [Angela and Brennan are standing on the catwalk above the lab] Look, you finally got to slap Russ. You've been wanting to do that for years.

      [Angela and Brennan chuckle]

Dr. Temperance 'Bones' Brennan: I worshipped him, you know. God, he was so cool. Everyone knew I was Russ Brennan's little sister. I wasn't cool or pretty, so being his sister... You know that game Marco Polo? I'd be sitting in class, and I'd hear out the window, "Marco!"

      [laughs]

Dr. Temperance 'Bones' Brennan: It'd be Russ checking in on me... and letting everyone know that I was his little sister.

      Angela Montenegro: Did you "Polo?"

Dr. Temperance 'Bones' Brennan: Yeah, sometimes it'd be the only word I said all day - "Polo." And then Mom and Dad disappeared, and Russ took off. Suddenly, no one cared where I was. I miss that. Someone caring where I am all the time.

Special Agent Seeley Booth: [Downstairs on the lab floor] Bones! Bones! You up there? Come on. Let's go, huh. Chop-chop.

[Brennan looks at Angela and rolls her eyes, oblivious to the fact that Booth cares where she is all the time]
