- Det. Sgt. Tom Ryan: No. No, I meant after the investigation. That was the first night.
- [Cassy feigns ignorance]
- Det. Sgt. Tom Ryan: That was the night!
- [she feigns more ignorance]
- Det. Sgt. Tom Ryan: The night we slept together!
- Det. Sgt. Cassandra 'Cassy' St. John: [unenthusiastically] Oh, right, yeah, it was.
- Det. Sgt. Tom Ryan: [chuckles] Hey, tell me, before we met that night... how long had you been thinking about sleeping with me?
- Det. Sgt. Cassandra 'Cassy' St. John: Mm. About five minutes.
- Det. Sgt. Tom Ryan: [laughs, slaps desktop with palm, stands up] Five minutes?
- Det. Sgt. Cassandra 'Cassy' St. John: Yeah. Why? How long had you been thinking about it?
- Det. Sgt. Tom Ryan: From the moment I met you. It was true love at first sight.
- Det. Sgt. Cassandra 'Cassy' St. John: Well, I was working with you. I didn't wanna stir things up.
- [gets up]
- Det. Sgt. Cassandra 'Cassy' St. John: You know me, I'm into my work. I didn't let myself think about it... I wouldn't let myself think about it.
- Det. Sgt. Tom Ryan: Five minutes, huh?
- Det. Sgt. Tom Ryan: You know why I have always hated that case?
- Det. Sgt. Cassandra 'Cassy' St. John: Yes. We had to come back from our honeymoon for it.
- Det. Sgt. Tom Ryan: We never finished our honeymoon.
- Det. Sgt. Cassandra 'Cassy' St. John: Yeah, but we sure tried to make up for it in Key West.
- Det. Sgt. Tom Ryan: [shakes his head] Stop now, Cass, you're driving me crazy.
- Det. Sgt. Cassandra 'Cassy' St. John: Hey, do I look like Dana?
- Det. Sgt. Tom Ryan: Dana's not crazy. She's just a little bit...
- Dana Preston: [barges in again] Tom!
- Det. Sgt. Cassandra 'Cassy' St. John: Loud?
- Dana Preston: [rushes towards Tom] I saw him! He killed her! Sharon Wilder! He wrapped her up in a sheet and my car got stuck and this guy that raises nutrients, he gave me a lift back, but I saw him!
- [Tom has her by the shoulders]
- Dana Preston: I mean, he hurled her into a pond, I think it was a pond, I don't know, because it was awfully dark...
- Det. Sgt. Tom Ryan: Whoa, what are you talking about? Who's Sharon Wilder?
- Dana Preston: This really rich, divorced woman from the club. Jeff Turner was doing the horizontal Macarena with her.
- Det. Sgt. Tom Ryan: And, and, and he killed her?
- Dana Preston: [sighs] I followed Jeff Turner to his motel. A little while later Sharon Wilder turned up and went in. Then a little later, Jeff Turner came out with a body wrapped in a sheet and he put it in the car.
- Det. Sgt. Cassandra 'Cassy' St. John: [gets up from behind her desk] In broad daylight?
- Dana Preston: And then I followed him over to Krome Avenue. And then he took off on a dirt road and I had a flat tire. I had to get out of the car and follow him on foot. But by the time I got to him, he had already turned around and was coming back. I had to jump to get out of the way!
- Capt. Harry Lipschitz: And then you drove back here?
- Dana Preston: [exasperated] No, I hitchhiked! Look, I know what a body looks like, okay? Even if it's wrapped in a sheet.
- Det. Sgt. Tom Ryan: Do you think you can lead us to the body?
- Dana Preston: Oh, I can take you right to the body. It's about a mile away from my car.
- [reconsiders]
- Dana Preston: Actually, it might be a little bit closer, because part of the time I had to maneuver around... and then I was running... well, it got a little bit dark, but it's definitely no further than two miles tops!
- Det. Sgt. Tom Ryan: [looks at the others who just look on skeptically] I'm not saying I don't believe you.
- Dana Preston: You think I'm making this up!
- Det. Sgt. Tom Ryan: No.
- [shakes his head]
- Det. Sgt. Tom Ryan: No, no. No.
- Dana Preston: Look, I know you guys think I'm crazy, all right? But you don't have to believe me, all right? All we have to do is to take a ride over to Sharon Wilder's house and check it out. But she's not gonna be there, because she's dead!
