    Underrated

This episode is so underrated it's one of the best in season 10.

    Setup Funny, But...

It was OK I guess. When Ned is humiliated, he decides he has to see the wild side and start living. He and Homer end up in Las Vegas doing bad things, including getting married to a couple floozies. What's happened is that Home is going from being randomly stupid to having actual plans and ends in mind. It takes much of the punch out of things.

    • Trivia
The beginning of the episode shows Mr. Burns' casino being demolished with explosion. In the DVD commentary for the episode, Mike Scully stated that there was "a lot of talk" and news reports about implosions at the time. Only directly after the implosion do the on-lookers realize the amount of dust that is unleashed. This is based on an observation by the writers, who noted that, when an implosion takes place, "everybody wants to be right next to them", not realizing that dust and asbestos will "fly in the air". In the DVD audio commentary for the episode, director Affleck stated that the scene was very complicated to animate, and took about "four or five takes" to get right.[4] Scully thought that the explosion looked "fantastic".

When talking to Ned while at the kitchen table, Homer puts his glasses in his shirt pocket, but then they suddenly disappear.

[Everyone wonders how Ned Flanders looks so young]

Moe Szyslak: It's holy water, right?

      [Splashes holy water on face]

      Moe Szyslak: Augh, it burns!

    • Alternate versions
In one scene, Homer and Ned are at the roulette table. While trying to pick numbers, the original airing has Homer saying, "When are the kids' birthdays? Barney's is April 20th, same as Hitler's." After the episode re-ran on the same day as the incidents of Columbine High School a few months later, the episode's third re-run, as well as international versions and the DVD release, changed Homer's line from "April 20th" to "June 15th, same as Lassie's." When "Viva" hit syndication, they kept it as April 20th.
