This episode has always been one of my favorites, though it's not incredible, but just really fun for me. I think Charlie being in the episode really elevates it, and if he wasn't I'm not sure how much I would like it, but gosh darn it I do. 8.3.
The first six seasons of "South Park" are all said to have Christmas episodes with Mr. Hankey in them. That technically isn't true, because while Mr. Hankey is certainly alluded to in this episode, he doesn't actually appear. That's actually a great subplot as it features a mall Mr. Hankey being unmasked by the boys. You have to admit it's pretty funny to see little kids fight police officers. This episode introduces us to Cartman's further family members. Well, they don't appear later.
They're mostly fat and talk just like him and it's as funny as it sounds. I found another grey alien. When Charles Manson is driving the kids away from the police, the tattoo on his forehead changes from a happy face to an alien. Okay, it isn't an alien technically physically appearing, but you get the idea. It's weird watching this now that Charles Manson has died. It was heartwarming in a weird way to see him portrayed here like this. ***1/2

Merry Christmas Charlie Manson is the season 2 Christmas episode of South Park.In my opinion, this one was a bit better than the previous Christmas episode. This one is simply hilarious! Cartman & friends go with his mom to Nebraska to see Cartman's family.Stan's parents didn't want him to go but he sneaks out anyway and is angry with his parents and claims that they are dead! Cartman's family members share some of the same characteristics as Cartman. They are all fat and yell at their animals when the animals ask for food.Meanwhile, Cartman's uncle escapes prison with his cellmate Charlie Manson. The boys find that Mr Hankey(who is now famous) is appearing at the mall so the boys go see him, they then realize that he is a fake mr hankey and start a riot. The cops eventually find Manson and follow him back to the Cartman house where a standoff ensues. In the midst of all the chaos, Manson finds the true meaning of Christmas! This is a very good episode and has some hilarious moments!
I've always liked this episode a lot even though it's nothing too special. It's great, it's not extremely funny or eventful but I think the obvious appeal is Charlie himself, and seeing Cartman's family is just kind of weird but not in a bad way. 8.3.

- TriviaThe only members of the Cartman family not overweight are Liane Cartman and Cartman's cousin, Alexandra.
- GoofsManson's smiley face tattoo briefly changes into an alien head while in the car. Given the show's creators' propensity for hiding aliens in the backgrounds of various scenes, this is almost certainly an intentional joke.
