Felt like a waste of talent.

The main plot in this episode is gay marriage. Since the administration has come out against gay marriage, Carter is going to protest by marrying Nikki to show that even people, not in love, can marry. Even though the acting was fine, the story just did not have that level of interest. It seemed like we were watching a protest rather than a comedy-sitcom.

However, the writers did have some side stories that helped the show's outcome. One was Ashley's new job as a TV reporter and the other was Paul's injury making him wear an eye-patch. The side story of the eye-patch was much more entertaining than the main plot. It would have made a great episode by itself.

When a side story is more interesting than the main story then you know that the episode is disappointing. It was not the actors that made the episode weak, it was the script.

Mayor Randall M. Winston Jr.: [talking to Mike] We mustn't forget that we brought Carter on board because he represents a segment of society that had no voice in this administration. Make sure he understands we really want to hear what he has to say. We just can't listen to him.
