Mike wanting to adopt a baby just made no sense.

I can only guess that the writers wanted to make a sentimental story for Mike. so they throw in a baby and now Mike wants to be the one that adopts the child. Ever since the beginning of the series, we have learned that Mike is a workaholic sometimes putting in twenty hour days. And now they change his character to make him look like a stay-at-home father, it really is beyond belief. It goes against how the character of Mike has been written about for the last two season.

There is nothing really wrong with the story as nearly all sitcoms have some type of idea similar to this situation. The entire episode may have been better if someone else in the office, other than Mike, would have been the person wanting to adopt the child. But instead with get the only one that is not fit for adoption to be the center of the tale.

On the other hand, the story of James going to the psychiatrist for the Mayor was the best part of the show. The Mayor does not want to be seen going into the doctor's office, so he gets James to take his laundry list of problem to the doctor for him. This actually turned out to be funny.

But with the situation with the baby story, there was really nothing that could have helped the show. Even bringing back past girlfriends, for a cameo, seemed almost inane and never helped bring interest. For me, this has been the strangest written episode of the series. A disappointing offering.
