    Gut Wrenching

Having been part of a labor strike myself, I know firsthand how many scars can be created. While mine was not a life or death situation I can only imagine what it was like to be on the line, knowing there are very ill people affected. I was really disappointed at Fiscus and Ehrlich out in front of the hospital, mocking the nurses. It wasn't necessary to show this. The emergency surgery performed by the skeleton crew was well done, including the nurse who broke ranks to help out. The rape of Kathy, for the second time, and the subsequent results, were horrible. Daniels had about six chances to show how bigoted and demeaning he can be. How nice of him to remove Ehrlich's glasses as he fell asleep from exhaustion.

Nurse Shirley Daniels: What are you doing here?

Nurse Lucy Papandrao: There was an emergency in the OR. There was nobody available, so I...

Nurse Shirley Daniels: Isn't that scabbing? Or is the union finally admitting they're jeopardizing patients' lives?

Nurse Lucy Papandrao: Don't blame it on the union. That man's life was in danger because no doctor had the foresight to transfer him last week.

Nurse Shirley Daniels: Oh, come on, Lucy. That's bull. Emergencies happen all the time.

Nurse Lucy Papandrao: Look, I'm on strike, okay? But if somebody's dying, I'm not on strike. It's that simple.

Nurse Shirley Daniels: Congratulations, you got it all figured out. But maybe dying isn't the worst thing that could happen to someone.

Nurse Lucy Papandrao: Oh, boy. If you really believe that, you're in the wrong business.

Nurse Shirley Daniels: It's starting all over again, and none of you seem to care. You're outside, looking for the fringe benefits!

Nurse Lucy Papandrao: Are we talking about the same thing?

      Nurse Shirley Daniels: Obviously not.

Nurse Lucy Papandrao: I think you've been working a little too hard, Shirley.

Nurse Shirley Daniels: Don't you have to get back on the line?
