    Discoveries

Westphall performs kidney transplant surgery on the young man from Africa. Wyler, way behind in technology training, can only watch. Chandler treats a man with two wives for a serious lung condition. Ehrlich feels his career is over when Craig doesn't choose him for an important surgery. Finally, Morrison's Mexican medical license comes into question.

    Edit
    • Trivia
The title is a parody of the song Whistle While You Work from the Disney movie Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937).
    • Goofs
At about the 9:30 point in the episode they show the Rosenthal family during breakfast. One daughter takes a slice of very well done toast from a plate and bites into it behind her moms back. The next time we see the same girl with a piece of toast it is now plain white bread with a bite out of the corner. Then when they show the plate she places the toast on it is now toasted again.
    • Quotes

      Dr. Jack Morrison: Dr. Westphall.

      Dr. Donald Westphall: Yeah.

Dr. Jack Morrison: I wanted to be the one to tell you.

Dr. Donald Westphall: Tell me what?

Dr. Jack Morrison: Carrolton University Medical School used to be in Mexico.

Dr. Donald Westphall: Jack, excuse me, I've been in surgery all day. Would you mind cluing me in on what you're talking about?

Dr. Jack Morrison: Well, I didn't get accepted to a med school here in the states, so I took a job doing research, while taking pharmaceutical training. Carrolton offered a two year program, but when I got there I found that I could accelerate. So, since I had other training, I took the test.

Dr. Donald Westphall: How long were you at this place?

      Dr. Jack Morrison: Six months.

Dr. Donald Westphall: You got two years credit in six months?

Dr. Jack Morrison: Well, I had to take the test, and the boards, I had a background.

Dr. Donald Westphall: Doesn't make you a doctor, Jack.

[Westphall and Jack enter the room]

Dr. Jack Morrison: Dr. Westphall, I didn't realize what...

Dr. Donald Westphall: Would you excuse us a for a minute, please.

      [Random person walks out]

      Dr. Donald Westphall: Thank you.

Dr. Jack Morrison: I didn't realize what I was doing was wrong.

Dr. Donald Westphall: Jack, if it were practical to train a doctor in that amount of time, don't you think we'd do it? Why the hell didn't you tell me? You owe me that much at least, for fighting to keep you here for a second year.

Dr. Jack Morrison: I wasn't... I was afraid. You're disappointed in me.

Dr. Donald Westphall: Yes, I'm disappointed, what the hell do you think?

Dr. Jack Morrison: Well, there must be some way to straighten this out, I mean something you can do.

Dr. Donald Westphall: The mistakes you made here, the misdiagnoses, I believed it was because you were doing your best to function under tremendous personal pressure and now it seems all the errors you made were the result of a grossly inadequate medical education. If I'd had the power, I'd suspend you, you know that?

Dr. Jack Morrison: Well, I'd like to continue with the educational part of my residency, but I'll take myself off cases.

Dr. Donald Westphall: That's a damn good idea.
