Captain Smiley wants me to debrief you

Quark and Rom go on a rescue mission to the mirror universe.

This could be an entertaining episode if the humour works for you, but I personally struggle with it.

When the premise is "let's do one last Ferengi or Mirror Universe episode" you suspect the writers might be less focussed on plot and more on giving actors the opportunity to have fun with certain versions of their characters. This certainly feels the case with this one.

The use of Nog is relatively good as he is presented as being quite baffled with the mirrorverse as most viewers probably were by this point in Star Trek's running.

There are some enjoyable aspects like seeing the mirror versions of characters like Kira and Ezri who entertain by being so different. I quite like the appearance of Vic Fontaine.

I find others like Garak, Worf and Bashir to be quite irritating. The actors do their best, but have no material to work with and little but their OTT performances to generate laughs. Unfortunately this is combined with Wallace Shawn's Negus, whose voice grates on me even in the good Ferengi stories.

Comedy is in the eye of the beholder so others may enjoy it more if it appeals to their sense of humour.

Another Tiresome Episode of the Alternate Universe

Once again, characters from Deep Space Nine end up in the alternate universe. Once again, the Grand Nagus needs to be rescued. Once again, the same old plot issues come forward. That incarnation of KIra is so tiresome. Please! No more!

    Disappointing.

We're getting closer to the end of the series but the last few episodes seem stand alone and not offering much to the overall story.

This is only my second Star Trek series I've watched, Enterprise the first and that ended horrifically, I really hope this picks up and soon.

    Mirror universe

Although most of the mirror universe episode are far from interesting, this one was Allright. Maybe because it involved my favourite characters: Garak and Quark. I always loved the secret torches Quark carried for jadzia and now Ezri, it makes him more human. And Garak has always been my favourite character. I found the interactions between Worf and Garak in the alternate universe the previous time quite hilarious. Here they don't have that many scenes together but they are still brilliant. Worf with his fiery, blunt character like an elephant in a China cupboard and Garak trying to dance around him made me LOL. So all in all not the best episode but quite oké.

    Ugh - that was painful

I am the biggest Star Trek fan ever. But wow the writing and the entire idea of this episode was just awful. I really struggled to get through it but I did.

    • Trivia
This episode is dedicated to Jerome Bixby, who died almost a year before this episode aired. He wrote the very first Mirror Universe episode Mirror, Mirror (1967).
    • Goofs
Zek tells Quark that the Alliance will release him only if Quark can secure a ship's cloaking device, claiming that they don't have cloaking technology in the Mirror Universe. This is inconsistent with what is shown in several previous Mirror Universe visits, where we see both Klingon and Cardassian ships with cloaking devices.
    • Quotes

Ezri Tigan: If you're found in Alliance territory without the cloaking device, you're dead.

Quark: Are you suggesting we should go back home?

Ezri Tigan: It's the smart move.

Quark: Do we look smart to you?
